WCW: Meet Elvisa, A Fun, Passionate LA Girl in the Beauty Industry

Welcome to another #WCW! Lately, we’ve been connecting with more amazing and hard-working women thanks to the power of networking (we love it!!).

A few days ago, we met Elvisa, a talented makeup artist and hairstylist from LA, who has worked with beauty and fashion brands on their photoshoots by creating looks. Also, she’s the marketing coordinator of Glamnetic Lashes (yeah, the cool magnetic lashes you’ve seen all over Instagram). See! we told you we’re all about #girlpower

Get ready to know her and her inspiring story and how something that made her happy turned into her full-time job.

Who is Elvisa?

A very passionate and creatively driven woman. A refugee to the States at the age of 7 with her parents and two older brothers. Intensely determined to become a successful business owner. Her main goal in life is to create genuine and honest connections and push those around her to their greatest potential. Fun, loving, down to earth, strong and resilient. Continuously growing, learning and observing.

How did you start your career as a makeup artist?

I started my career as a makeup artist after attending Paul Mitchell school in Sacramento for hair surprisingly. My interest was always makeup but there was no make up specific classes and my first gig out of beauty school was publishes on multiple marketing materials and people noticed which allowed me to build a clientele soon after.

Where do you get your inspiration from when it comes to creating looks?

My inspiration always comes from the client, I feel it is extremely important to listen to your client’s needs and execute the makeup look the way that they prefer and not the way that you would want them to appear. My creative inspiration is typically found through my amazing friends that are also artists, so through social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest and the occasional acrylic on canvas art that I come across!

What's your signature look when you do your own makeup?

My own signature look would definitely have to be more natural. Using taupe, shades of brown on the outer corner and a pop of gold shimmer on the lid is my go-to! It’s fun, quick, easy and can be used for a simple day or sultry night look if you pair it with lashes and some liner!

Who inspired you to pursue your career and personal dreams?

After the passing of both of my parents, I fell into doing makeup after receiving my first BH cosmetics 120 color palette and creating a look with vivid colors on a close friend. This just started out as something fun. As I kept playing with different color cosmetics, I felt a new kind of happiness inside that allowed me to get through the hard times in my early childhood.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

The advice that I would give my younger self is to slow down and not rush the process there’s a lot of learning to do. This industry is constantly changing and evolving and it’s best to absorb everything you can, build your craft, do not compare and isolate yourself because you see other artists out there that have a different skillset within the make up industry.

Which one of our tops would you give to the most important women of your life? Why?

I have so many women that I look up to which most of are my incredibly talented friends. I would give the Hustlin & Thriving tee to my friend Ayanna because she is really going full force with her business ShopAkia and has put so much work and creative vision into a truly stunning swimwear line that women of all shapes and sizes can feel beautiful and confident in!
