#WCW: Meet Angelique and Rosey, the Business Babes Behind the Jewelry Brand Imperfection Addiction

We love to feature inspiring business babes, and today we want to talk about the brilliant and creative minds behind Imperfection Addiction, the cutest jewelry brand we’ve seen.
Their style is minimalistic and the accessories are designed to combine with almost every outfit you wear. Everything looks simple, chic and trendy (and all the pieces seem perfect for your next #ootd on Instagram).

One thing we really love about this awesome brand is that for every purchase made, 10% is donated to someone battling addiction. Can you imagine looking fashionable and also being able to give back?

Today’s #WCW will be dedicated to getting to know more about Angelique and Rosey, the founders of Imperfection Addiction and learn from their advice and the legacy they want to leave.

-How did Imperfect Addiction start?

Imperfect Addiction started off as a hobby - we both shared a love for jewelry at a young age. In fact, at around 12 and 10 years old, we actually wanted to start a jewelry company making beaded bracelets. Our mother took us into Manhattan, where we sourced beads, string and unique locks. We made a bunch of bracelets for ourselves and our friends. As we grew older, we started designing new pieces on paper. Rosey worked in the jewelry industry and eventually she started showing these designs to a jeweler, who brought them to life. Our friends and family started asking about our pieces and we started making more of them - eventually leading to us creating an Instagram and starting our own brand

-How would you define your brand?

We like to define our brand as chic, delicate and purposeful. We believe that jewelry is a perfect way for people to express themselves, especially women! We want our jewelry to give women confidence - we want to make them feel beautiful. Most of our pieces are delicate and dainty, they can be worn alone or layered together for a bolder effect. A lot of our jewelry is also customizable because we know everyone has their own story and we want them to be able to share that through their pieces. We're big on giving back, so every purchase made with Imperfect is purposeful

-How did you decide to give back through Imperfect Addiction?

Giving back has always been extremely important to us - when creating a brand, we wanted to make sure we were giving back in some way. Up until now, we've used 10% of our profits to help people battling addiction - but we are in the process of rebranding and restructuring our give-back brand, to increase our impact.

-What advice would you give to people that are starting their own business?

This may sound silly, but our advice to anyone wanting to start their own business is to just do it, start it, now! Don't wait, make that first move - whether it's starting an Instagram page, creating a simple website, etc. Whatever you think that first step you need to take is - take it, whether you think you're ready or not. You can do it!! You don't need to know everything in order to start a successful business. You learn a lot along the way - we are still learning every single day. The truth is, the hardest part is starting - once you start - everything else will fall into place. You don't know what to expect until you start, that's when everything happens, and then you figure it out as you go.

Another word of advice we have is to be consistent, without burning yourself out. Create some kind of self-care routine and carve out time for breaks. One of the most important qualities of an entrepreneur is their mindset and in order to create a positive mindset that is strong and confident in winning - you need to give yourself breaks/time off. We truly believe you can achieve whatever you set your mind to! Focus on your goals and work consistently to achieve them. The best way to create a positive mindset, especially in the beginning, is by setting small goals for yourself. For example, setting a goal as small as taking a photo tomorrow for your feed and then accomplishing that goal helps your mindset stay focused. When you accomplish that small task, you win - and when you continue to set goals and accomplish them, you are creating a positive mindset of winning. Accomplishing these small goals daily helps your mindset stay focused on winning, which helps prepare your mind to win bigger goals too.

-What was the biggest challenge you faced while starting your own brand?

The truth is, we've faced many challenges along the way. We're a small business and we don't have a lot of start-up capital. We obviously haven't let that stop us, but there are some downfalls to it. For example, the product photography is very expensive, especially for jewelry. At the moment, we don't have the most "professional" product photos, but we're fortunate enough to have Instagram - where we can show our pieces through photos we've taken of the jewelry on us - real photos with real people

We can also talk about our jewelry in our stories - so that our customers see what our pieces look like and what our brand is about. We could've let the expenses of product photography stop us from moving forward - or we could've exhaust whatever capital we did have by spending it on product photography - but instead, we figured out a way around it for the time being. We turned the challenge around and found a temporary solution, that has actually helped us create a more engaging Instagram account. It has allowed us to interact with our customers on a more personal level!

Another challenge we have faced is being copied by others, sometimes larger brands that have more of a following - so no one even knows we had that piece first. We used to be so focused on who was copying our pieces and it started to eat away at us - now, we don't spend any time on it. Instead, we take it as a compliment and move on - we're obviously doing something right and we're going to continue to work hard and give our customers what they want!

-What legacy do you want to leave for future generations of women?

- We want women to be more confident in themselves - Women-owned businesses are the sh*t (For lack of a better word) - Women are so strong, powerful, smart, beautiful and capable of literally anything and everything. We hope to continue to grow and eventually expand our company to hire more women and give them a positive, exciting and creative workspace - to inspire them and others to follow their dreams, work hard and accomplish every goal they've ever had.
